South West Trains has launched an online discount scheme and an intranet site to help communicate benefits to
its mobile employees.

Internal communications manager Matt Hurst said: “We have launched the scheme to say thank-you to staff for their hard work during a challenging year. We thought it was time to bring the different strands of our benefits into one location, and give additional discounts.”

South West Trains launched an intranet site to help communicate benefits, which can be a challenge because 3,000 of its 4,500 staff are based on trains and in ticket offices with no computer access. Hurst said: “We targeted them through printed media in the past.”

After registering on the new site, The Platform, staff are able to access more than 5,000 retail and travel discounts.

As well as information about the discount scheme, which is provided by Personal Group, the site gives access to other perks, such as childcare vouchers, an employee assistance programme and bikes for work.
