Educating employees about share schemes can help to boost participation. More than 80 per cent of staff that have joined sharesave plans, for example, have done so more than once, while 50% have joined on more than four occasions, according to Employee share ownership plans, financial education and savings behaviour from Halifax Employee Equity Solutions.

The research also showed that just under two-thirds (65 per cent) of those who join a sharesave plan also participate in a share incentive plan (Sip). Overall, 72er cent of employees are involved in at least one employee share plan.
