As a direct result of its fundraising campaign at Employee Benefits Live, Secondsight has arranged for the delivery of 350 textbooks to the Showers of Blessings school in Watamu, Kenya.

The employee benefits provider agreed to fund one textbook for every enquiry form completed at its stand during Employee Benefits Live 2011 in September, and is now on the way to reaching its target of 1,700 textbooks.

Secondsight has also committed to raising funds to purchase 95 desks. For every meeting its staff have as a direct result of the show, it will donate one new desk.

Darren Laverty, partner at Secondsight, said: “The schools receive no funding from the Kenyan state and rely heavily on donations from tourists in order to survive.

“Unfortunately, the school is not on the tourist path and so receive little in the way of support. I was lucky enough to be shown around and saw first hand how dedicated the teachers and pupils are to learning, yet they have so little.

“Providing these books is the first step to delivering a better level of education and I know how much value they will place on these items.”
