Quorum Business Park has been recognised at the Business in the Community’s (BITC) Awards for Excellence in the Ways2Work category, for its promotion of better ways of working and better ways of traveling to work.
The Newcastle-based business park, which includes organisations such as Balfour Beatty, Convergys, HM Revenue and Customs, IBM and Tesco Bank, was awarded for its travel strategy, which offers staff at all organisations based at its park, a range of alternatives to car travel, including a car park management scheme and a bikes-for-work scheme.
These changes have reduced the percentage of staff driving to work from 75% in 2008 to 55% in 2012.
Other onsite amenities include a nursery, a sports centre and an outdoor games area.
Laura McVittie, commuter centre manager at Quorum Business Park, said: “Functioning at full capacity will see 8,000 people working on the park so we are geared up to giving plenty of different travel choices to commuters.
“Quorum has taken a proactive approach, implementing a comprehensive sustainable travel strategy as well as investing in facilities for the employees’ wellbeing.”
Bridget Jackson, chair of the Ways2Work judging panel and corporate sustainability director at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PWC), added: “Quorum†is a fantastic example of a bold, proactive approach to sustainable travel, working collaboratively with multiple stakeholders to deliver significant and tangible behaviour change in a short period of time.”
