The Queen outlined the government's plans to tackle the gender pay gap, improve working conditions for agency workers, and crack down on bankers' bonuses in her speech at the state opening of parliament last month.

Her speech said the Equality Bill would "narrow the gap between rich and poor", and contained measures to ensure employers with more than 250 staff reported on gender differences in pay.

She said the government would "ensure agency workers have a right to equal treatment with permanent staff on pay, holidays and other basic conditions".

The Queen also referred to the Financial Services Bill, which proposed to strengthen the Financial Services Authority's ability to act on excessive pay.
