The government's consultation on identifying possible measures to increase giving through Gift Aid has closed and a summary of responses will be published later in the autumn.

The consultation, which was announced in this year's Budget, was mentioned among the pre-Budget report's promises to simplify the business tax system. This drew attention to the closure of the consultation period on 30 September 2007 following 'seven regional and national events, and submissions from a wide range of local and national third sector organisations'. A summary of responses to the consultation will be published on HM Treasury's website in the autumn.

Prior to next year's budget, the government, with the input of charitable sector representatives, will explore a number of areas raised during the consultation.
