Traditional paper-based communications remain the most popular method of applying to join an occupational share scheme, according to the Employee share ownership plans, financial education and savings behaviour research from HBOS Employee Equity Solutions.

However, the ever-increasing use of online systems such as the internet and intranet at work, means that the percentage of employees using these methods is only slightly lower.

The survey found that almost half (48%) of employees still prefer the paper style of application, while 38% of staff favour an online approach.

Least popular were telephone applications. Only 14% of staff said this was the channel that they preferred to use when applying to an employee share scheme.
