Woolworths' employees based in the Channel Islands have been dealt a further blow after learning they will not receive statutory redundancy pay.

The retailer’s administrator Deloitte has confirmed that staff members in Jersey and Guernsey are not offered the same level of protection from the Redundancy Payment Office as workers in the rest of the UK.†

It has been reported that a petition has been set up calling for the 120 employees in the Channel Islands to be compensated. A spokesperson from Deloitte said the situation was very “frustrating” for staff members.

The last of the retailer’s 807 stores closed at the beginning of the week leaving 22,000 permanent staff members and 5,000 temporary without a job.
