Soft drinks organisation Nicholas is to launch a payroll giving scheme on 15 October for its 115 employees.

The scheme, which is provided by Workplace Giving UK,† allows staff to contribute a minimum of £5 a month from their salary to a charity of their choice. This will be matched pound for pound through employer contributions.

Lynne Poole, head of human resources at Nicholas, said: “We do an awful lot of charitable work anyway, but it is not very greatly structured.

“A lot of our [staff] support different charities outside of work and [we] wanted to give them the opportunity to maximise the amount of money that was going to the charity because of the tax savings they would get with the workplace giving [scheme].”

To communicate the scheme to staff, Nicholas will hold a quarterly team meeting. “That seemed the perfect opportunity to tell everybody about what workplace giving was, how it is going to work, and what they could do,” said Poole. “There will be a representative onsite that same day to provide more information and sign people up.”
