JD Wetherspoon has extended the number of its employees able to receive pension contributions in a bid to improve recruitment. It will now offer contributions to its stakeholder pensions scheme to an extra 550 staff.
Previously, the pub chain only contributed to the pensions of pub managers and 300 head office employees. Now the next layer of employees, shift managers, are also eligible.
Carol Moloney, compensation and benefits manager, said: "It will help make people aware that they have to save for their future."
There is no qualifying period of service and staff are included in the scheme right away.
"To be at that level you have to have been in the company for at least a year anyway," she added.
The firm, which owns 650 pubs across the UK, made the changes in October.
Moloney hopes the contributions will encourage junior staff to stay at JD Wetherspoon and move up the ranks.
She said: "It's probably going to make it more attractive [for workers] to stay for over five years, when people will then able to get [even] greater contributions."
