Something for the weekend: The job interview process can often be a gruelling one, with many potential applicants fearing numerous panel-style interviews, complete with quick-fire questions about their career history and transferable skills. But how much better would that interview process seem if it were to involve a paid-for trip to New Zealand?
Candidates looking for a job in the technology sector could soon be flown to Wellington, New Zealand, to take part in a four-day trip that will showcase both job opportunities and the social life available in the local area.
The LookSee Wellington scheme will fly 100 global job hunters who work in the technology sector to Wellington between 8 and 11 May 2017 to partake in pre-arranged job interviews at industry-leading organisations, such as Cigna, Deloitte, Springload, and Weta Digital. The scheme has 100 jobs to fill, with available positions including business intelligence, devops engineer and digital strategist.
The trip, provided by local council department Wellington Regional Economic Development Agency (WREDA) and global recruitment organisation Workhere New Zealand, will also allow candidates to enjoy the social scene in Wellington, helping applicants to better understand what life could be like if they were to move to New Zealand for work. The scheme will fund the potential candidates' flights and accommodation.
The online application process involves candidates creating a profile page, which is then viewed by potential employers in Wellington. These employers then select which candidates they are interested in, and the top 100 applicants are subsequently invited to fly to Wellington for the interview process.
Here at Employee Benefits, we think this holiday-style application process would certainly put us at ease, and we love the idea of exploring a new location as well as a potential job role. It's a shame the LookSee Wellington scheme is only focused around tech roles...
