Nationwide Building Society has added a number of new healthcare and group risk benefits to its flexible benefits scheme and has extended the coverage of some of its existing perks.

The bank, which has more than 16,000 staff, has added income protection, critical illness insurance, private medical insurance, wellness assessments, life cover and personal accident insurance, gym membership and dependant's pension to flex.

Existing flex benefits that have been improved include car parking offered via salary sacrifice, which has been extended to its London site. The amount of holiday staff can buy and sell each year has also been increased to two weeks from the previous one week.

Nationwide's annual flex enrolment window opened last month and staff have until 17 November to select their benefits.

Rosemary Crabb, flexible benefits manager at Nationwide, said: "We have an annual take-up of around 43%, which is healthy. By introducing new products from Aviva, Bupa, Legal and General, and Simplyhealth alongside established options, we believe our flex offering is one of the largest in the UK."
