National Express has made a number of changes to its benefits package to take into account the wide variety of staff working patterns.

The coach operator has launched an employee assistance programme (EAP), a voluntary benefits package and gifts for new mothers paid for by the company.

Senior HR manager Sarah Maddox said: "We are a 24 hour, seven days a week, 365 days a year business and anything we do, we have to bear in mind that people don't necessarily work nine to five. They do shifts, early starts, late finishes and some of our drivers work through the night and we need to ensure they have access to these benefits 24/7 to fit in with their work patterns."

The online voluntary benefits package, run by benefits provider Perkz, is accessible through the National Express intranet, as well as the internet and its EAP counselling service, run by Right Corecare, is a 24-hour telephone hotline.
