With MPs taking flak over their expenses in recent months, one might suggest that the Palace of Westminster acted as something of a safe haven for our elected representatives while the metaphorical bullets were flying.
Now a further reason to stay in the Commons has emerged - the food there is cheap as, well, chips.
The Guardian has reported that some meals in the popular Terrace restaurant are almost 10 times cheaper than similar dishes in nearby eateries, a feat made possible because of Parliament’s subsidies from the public purse.
For example, spinach soup and a steak and kidney pie at the Terrace is said to cost a mere £3.45, while the same two courses at traditional restaurant Shepherd’s comes in at £31.
It seems MPs will have food to savour, as well as food for thought, when they return from their summer recess.
