Michelin has started to provide its employees with a part-funded dental plan benefit in a response to spiralling National Health Service (NHS) costs in the UK.

The tyre manufacturer reviewed its existing cash plan last year, and ask staff whether a dental plan would be of interest. Although the response from employees was not emphatic, the employer decided there was enough demand to put a scheme in place.

Julie Lovett, benefits manager at Michelin, said: "The survey was to gage how much interest there would be [in a dental plan], and we didn’t get a fantastic response but it was enough to get us a meaningful set of results, so that’s the route we are going down."

Instead of putting the scheme online, employees have been sent information packs on the dental plan, and those wishing to take part need to fill out a form and send it back to the manufacturer.
