Mettis Aerospace employees have postponed a planned strike on 18 December after its management made an improved pay offer for 2014.

Around 300 staff at the engine and airframe manufacturer’s plant in Redditch, Worcestershire will vote at a consultation today (18 December) on the offered 2.5% pay rise, an increase on the 2% previously offered.

The organisation imposed a pay freeze for 2013, and had offered a 2% pay rise for the following three years.

Emma Greenway, HR manager at Mettis Aerospace, said: “I can confirm that industrial action originally planned to take place on 18 December 2013 has been postponed pending consultation with the workforce on a revised pay offer.”

Bob Shaw, regional officer at the union Unite, added: “After talks on Tuesday 17 December with the organisation, the improved offer was made that will be put to the workforce [on 18 December].

“It will be for the members to decide whether they wish to accept the offer. In the meantime, the strike due to have started at 6am has been postponed.”
