Mercer has appointed Paul Macro head of defined contribution (DC) in its UK retirement business.
Macro will be responsible for managing Mercer’s UK DC consulting team.
He joins from Towers Watson, where he was senior consultant and a member of the DC management team. He also worked on formulating the consultancy’s response to the 2012 pension reforms.
Prior to this, Macro was head of UK DC propositions at Aon Consulting (now Aon Hewitt).
Tony Pugh, head of DC business in Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) at Mercer, said: “The next few years will be critical in the development of the UK DC landscape, with new legislation, new providers and new solutions coming to the fore.
“Macro will provide the skills and consulting experience to help us deliver employers’ needs in this rapidly changing market.”
Macro added: “The challenges of auto-enrolment and pressure from The Pensions Regulator to increase DC governance mean there could not be a better time to take the lead of a vibrant and growing team.”
Macro’s appointment follows that of Gail Philippart, who joined Mercer from Aon Hewitt on 9 January 2012.
