Kellog's and the East Chesire NHS Trust are among a number of organisations launching a workplace cycling programme with British Cycling.
The programme enables organisations to encourage employees to take advantage of cycling as a pastime, a sport and a mode of transport.
It includes ride leader training to enable employees to lead group rides; support for commuting; exclusive bike maintenance workshops; and Breeze, British Cycling’s new network to get more women into cycling.
Kate Hannah, communications manager at Kellogg’s UK, said: “At Kellogg’s we have a long history of getting involved in activities which promote healthy, active lifestyles for the communities we work in, and all our employees.
“We are working with British Cycling to excite our workforce about cycling as a fun activity for them and their families, and a great way to commute to work.
"As we grow our partnership we will be able to connect everyone at Kellogg’s to the inspirational Great Britain Cycling Team as they prepare for and compete in London 2012, and we will continue to grow as a healthy, motivated and cycling workplace.”
John Wilbraham, chief executive of East Cheshire NHS Trust, said: “We are delighted to be partnering British Cycling in this initiative for staff and their families.
“We are encouraging our staff and their families to get out and have some fun together. British Cycling is helping us to achieve this.
“Their expertise and guidance we hope will encourage our 2,000-plus staff to join in, keep fit and enjoy the countryside in which they live, work and play.”
Stewart Kellett, recreation and partnerships director at British Cycling, added: “Cycling is great for employees, their family, the environment, their employer and the UK economy.
“It is also great fun at this exciting time as we prepare for a once in a lifetime home Olympic Games. Our workplaces programme is a fantastic way for organisations to share in the excitement of 2012 and show support for the Great Britain Cycling Team. We are offering the chance to get involved in a wide range of cycling activities with an emphasis on team building and fun.
“We believe there is a new way to engage everyone – building teams, promoting wellbeing and offering fun inside and outside work.
“We work closely with national and regional bodies including local authorities, charities and community organisations. More than any other activity, cycling can make a difference to the sustainability, health and happiness of organisations and communities.”
