Katharine Photiou has joined Mercer as a principal in its strategic benefits consulting and delivery team.†

Her role is to develop innovative solutions which reshape the benefit packages that Mercer's clients offer their employees – taking advantage of new technologies, current tax efficiencies, increased demand for choice and flexibility, and the need for greater return on investment from employers.

She has joined from Friends Provident Life & Pensions where she was UK corporate strategy manager responsible for developing employee benefits strategy and corporate platform wraps covering pensions, savings, healthcare, life cover and flexible benefit offerings. She has over 15 years' experience in employee benefits, working mainly in entrepreneurial start-up roles with Friends Provident.

Eddie Hodgart, who is leading this key initiative for Mercer, said: "Mercer is challenging the appropriateness of current employee benefit offerings in the market place and developing innovative design and delivery solutions that reflect the changing needs of both companies and their employees. Given the breadth of our consulting, broking and delivery capabilities, we are able to take an in-depth and far-reaching look at the market, and Katharine's background in insured benefits on the provider side gives us additional insights to our work."
