Jardine Lloyd Thompson Group is to “internationalise” its growing employee benefits business by developing a new online benefits platform and other services that can be used globally by employers.

This initiative is to be led by commercial director William Nabarro who has taken on the additional role of international chairman of employee benefits. China, Australia and Latin America have been identified as possible areas of growth for the employee benefits business.

The move comes as the group announced a turnover of £266.2m for the six months to 30 June and an underlying trading profit of £44m, both up 9% on the same period last year.

Turnover for the employee benefits business in the UK and Ireland for the same period increased by 8% to £42.9m, comprising 4% organic growth and 4% by acquisition, while trading profit increased by 11% to £7.3m. New clients that have been secured during this period include Vivendi Universal, Michelin and solicitors Stephenson Harwood.

Chief executive of the JLT’s UK Employee Benefits business, Duncan Howarth, has also been appointed to the group executive committee. he said: “We are going to internationalise the employee benefits business.”

He added that this will involve developing common services and products that can be rolled out globally including a new online benefits platform.
