J Sainsbury will offer outplacement support on request to any employees that are made redundant in a head office restructure.

The retailer has entered into a 90-day consultation period over plans to streamline its operations, which could result in job losses.

J Sainsbury's employs approximately 3,500 people in its head office operations across locations in central London, Coventry, Streatham and Manchester. A spokeswoman said: “The proposed changes are part of normal productivity changes undertaken over time. We reviewed our store management structures last year and also our HR store teams.”

She added that the retailer plans to create 3,000 new jobs this in stores this year, in addition to the 2,000 employees taken onto a permanent contract after Christmas.
