O2 revamps flexible benefits scheme

O2 Telefonica UK has revamped its flexible benefits scheme to improve the perks on offer and the way it is communicated.

Features added to the plan, which is in its third year, include a Benefits Mixer tool that asks staff simple questions to suggest benefits that suit their lifestyle. Colin Watt, head of reward and recognition, said: “Some people found it difficult to make choices that were personal to them because there was so much on there.”

The firm has also added a tax calculator to help staff see the impact their selections will have on overall pay. The number of days’ leave staff can buy has been increased, and optical insurance added. A wine club, which saw low take-up last year, was removed.

To communicate the scheme better, O2 produced a five-minute interactive video that is accessible from its benefits website. In the video, a talking head explains how all the benefits work. “Staff said they would really like some face-to-face interaction, but we could not do that or we would be on the road all year,” said Watt. “The video is our way of reaching out to people.”

O2 has also launched a Christmas discounts scheme as a festive update to its O2 Deals voluntary benefits offering.
