Harrods staff threaten strike over pay and holidays

Harrods employees are to be balloted over strike action in a dispute over pay and holiday.

Around 275 essential workers, such as engineers, drivers, warehouse operatives and maintenance workers, are to be balloted by union Unite between 4 and 18 August. The move after these employees were excluded from the two extra days holiday entitlement given to shopfloor staff to thank them for their hard work.

Employees also object to a below-inflation pay offer of 3.5%

Unite regional officer, Debbie McSweeney, said: "Our members keep Harrods running, they ensure the lights stay on, the building operates safely and shoppers can get about the store.

"Unless Harrods return to the negotiating table with an improved and fairer deal for our members, the world's most famous store faces a very expensive strike."
