Furniture manufacturer Hammonds has launched a home training initiative (HTi), which allows staff to purchase a computer through salary sacrifice to use at home to improve computer literacy.

The firm has just closed the window for staff to sign up for the scheme.

The tax-efficient scheme means that employees to purchase the necessary home computer equipment and e-learning facilities to improve their career progression and personal development. Staff can also save tax and national insurance contributions (NICs) on the cost of the computer and learning software, while the employer can save NICs.

Stuart Sinfield, head of personnel at Hammonds, said: "The appeal of offering HTi to our employees was too great for us to turn down and the whole process was simplicity itself. We are now looking forward to the next HTi salary sacrifice window to open as we [have] already started to have new enquiries."

The scheme is provided by RedPC Services.
