The government is to press ahead with introducing a £30,000 annual charge on non-domicile tax payers who have been resident in the UK for more than seven years, but says individuals will not now have to reveal details about their financial affairs outside the UK.
Employers of "non-doms" have been campaigning against the tax arguing that it could force high-flyers to desert the UK. Currently non-domiciles only need to pay UK tax on their foreign income sent to the UK.
