G4S Security Services (UK) is to offer subsidised judo lessons to employees' families in an attempt to improve their health and fitness.

The lessons will be provided as part of a partnership with the British Judo Association (BJA). The security firm has agreed to invest £1m in promoting judo over the next four years in an extension to its existing partnership with the BJA. Under the arrangement the children of G4S’s employees will be offered subsidised judo lessons and contributions to their kit, licensing and grading.

Doug Hewitson, group managing director at G4S Securities Services (UK), believes that the initiative will encourage the children of staff to lead a healthy lifestyle. "We're really excited by the potential of this programme. Not only does it give us the opportunity to help British sport, but it's an ideal way of promoting key values such as discipline, self-control and physical fitness," he says.

The programme is part of a wider partnership between G4S and BJA, which is itself part of the FTSE-British Olympic Association Partnership Initiative.
