The majority of employees are prepared to give up a portion of their pay to keep their final salary pension scheme open - according to research from Norwich Union.
A survey of 1,000 adults carried out by NOP on behalf of Norwich Union in May found that four-fifths of employees who currently belong to such a scheme would be willing to sacrifice part of their salary in order to keep it open. Some said they would be willing to give up at least 10% of their salary.
And one-third of staff in a defined benefit scheme claimed that they would change employers if the plan were to close. However, more than half of those without a pension said that they would prefer a 5% pay rise instead of a pension contribution of 15% of salary
