Ocado has launched its second sharesave scheme, using targeted communications to reach its diverse, mainly weekly-paid, workforce.
The online grocery retailer has 22% monthly-paid, office-based staff, and 78% weekly-paid workers, including drivers. Its 2012 sharesave scheme, effective from this month, has achieved a 31% take-up by monthly-paid staff and a 10% take-up by those paid weekly.
Joanna Gordon-Utting, reward and benefits manager at Ocado, said: "One of our goals is to make sure our communications are as green as possible, so this time we tried to cut down on the amount of paperwork we sent to staff."
Initially, Ocado posted an A5 card to all staff and ran promotions on its intranet. It also sent employees SMS text message updates and reminders of the deadline.
Ocado launched its first sharesave scheme in 2010. Its 2012 scheme was introduced with a 10% discount on the share price. As a result, 20% of employees in the 2010 scheme have transferred over to the 2012 scheme.
