The National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence has published a set of guidelines for employers, which offer advice around keeping employees healthy at work.

Although these guidelines also offer advice for local authorities and schools, they target employers by urging them to provide facilities such as parking for cycles and walking schemes.

Employers agree that they must take a leading role when it comes to employee health and wellbeing at work.

Michael Pye, director of HR operations at Universal Music, said: "Obviously there is a duty of responsibility on both sides, but the employer must lead the way, pave the path as it were, then hopefully people will take on board what we are trying to achieve."
