A set of principles aimed at helping HR, reward and benefits professionals directors develop executive remuneration policies, practices and structures has been launched by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD).

The ten principles, designed to be applicable across sector, industry and organisation size, advises employers to have a clear design for remuneration plans and sustainable value creation incentives, as well as provide access to independent expert advice for decision-makers in remuneration.

Charles Cotton, CIPD reward adviser, said: “There’s been an awful lot of heat, and not a lot of light in the debate about executive pay and bonuses. Unfortunately, the issue has been reduced to a slanging match around how much executives earn. We need to move beyond this.”
