DHL Express has launched a voluntary benefits scheme for staff as the first step towards providing a total reward package.

The scheme, which was launched to around 13,000 employees at the beginning of September, is intended to familiarise staff with the concept of benefits. It will also help to create a brand unity between the different organisations from which the company was formed.

Craig Truter, reward and recognition manager, said: “We’re on a journey to total reward, which means we want to give people greater visibility of their pay and benefits. “It’s getting [employees’] heads around what benefits mean to them and giving them some choice.”

Dissemination of information was key to the logistics company because not all staff have computer access at work. It therefore appointed communications champions at each of DHL Express’ sites to distribute booklets, as well as publishing information online.

The perks on offer through the scheme include childcare vouchers, a healthcare cash plan, partnership shares and a range of discounts.
