International law firm Denton Wilde Sapte has launched a year-long healthy balance programme, with a particular emphasis on mental and physical wellbeing.

The programme commenced with a health and lifestyle fair in the firm's London office on 29 January. This featured stands dedicated to health and fitness, social and creative activities.

The programme will continue throughout the year with talks on issues such as coping with stress and maintaining fitness and general health.

Carole Watling, health and wellbeing officer and chartered occupational psychologist, said: "Law firms can often be hot-house environments where people work extremely hard and to tight deadlines. We know excessive levels of long-term stress can lead to illness, and we recognise this has a serious impact on people's ability to do their jobs properly. In our view, if you support people by giving them tools to help them cope with stress and anxiety, they will be more productive and satisfied with their jobs.

"We have also developed a training programme to help our managers and lawyers identify the causes of stress and to show them how their own behaviour can prevent unnecessary stress. Ours is a fresh approach, focused on promoting positive manager behaviours that can influence the well-being of everyone in the firm and help build resilience to stress."
