The Czech army is embarking on a downsizing project, which is designed to slim down its workforce.

However, it will be bellies, rather than headcount, that will be reduced as the army cracks down on high levels of obesity among its soldiers.

Soldiers will do more exercise and go on a diet. Fat-fighting diet pills may also be handed out, but only as a last resort.

The army's battle against obesity came after military doctors discovered that half of the army's 22,000 personnel are overweight and 3,500 are obese.
