Crawley Borough Council is to run a series of health and wellbeing events in June and September to encourage its 800 staff to lead healthier lives.

June's events will focus on men's health, and those in September will cover a broader range of activities, including lunch-time walks, taster dance lessons, tai chi classes and cycle-to-work days.

Sarah Barnes, the council's policy and equalities manager, said: "The idea behind the events programme is to encourage staff to try something new, to improve their health, and generally to think differently about their activities.

"Although the HR department has initiated the overall event, it is staff that are doing most of the organising. For example, the lunchtime tai chi classes are being run by one of the council's managers."

The events programme follows an initial health and wellbeing month, which was held last September. That included a range of activities for staff to get involved in each day.

Following the initiative, 20 council employees signed up to a salary sacrifice bikes-for-work scheme, run by Evans Cycles.
