Social housing and public sector service provider Connaught has introduced a mileage recording system for its 5,000-strong fleet.

So far around 850 company car drivers and 500 cash allowance drivers have gone live on the system, which requires drivers to record their business miles electronically on a monthly basis.

The information is then included on a mileage claims form, which is submitted to the finance department. In addition, management reports provide details of total business mileage for company managers.

The system, provided by Tusker, also helps Connaught to meet its duty of care requirements by ensuring employees with cash allowances answer a series of risk management questions on the mileage expense claim form.

Drivers are asked to provide a number of details relating to the age of their the vehicle, how often it is serviced and the type of insurance they have.

Connaught fleet director, David Armstrong, said: “Capturing business mileage effectively in this way allows us to understand how this critical data can be more readily used to make the business more efficient, both financially and environmentally.

“At the same time, we wanted to reinforce our duty of care requirements to our cash allowance drivers who use their own vehicles on company business and to ensure that both they and we were compliant with current health and safety guidelines.”
