The Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) believes workforce segmentation is key to effectively communicating messages to staff.
Speaking in the session on Increasing awareness and understanding of benefits through effective communication, on day two of the Employee Benefits Exhibition and Conference 2007, Jim Cowan, senior consultant, remuneration and benefits at the Royal Bank of Scotland, said that the bank uses factors such as employees’ age, length of service and salary to segment its workforce
“We want to increase employee understanding and awareness of benefits through effective communication,” he added.
Jerry Edmondson, senior HR consultant at Hewitt Associates, meanwhile, explained that employers should make use a wide variety of communication methods, and should embrace new technology such as podcasts for certain groups of employees.
“Additional media is now available, employers really have to move with the times,” he said.
