BT has launched a global campaign to help its employees make lifestyle changes that are aimed at preventing cancer.
The company aims to target its 104,000 current employees across the globe and 120,000 BT pensioners with its six-week long Work Fit: Cancer and You campaign. The campaign will include interactive displays, online articles and roadshows held across the world.
Information will be provided to both past and present employees on how to make lifestyle changes and how to spot the early signs of cancer. The organisation claims that 40% of cancers are preventable through individuals making small changes to their lifestyles such as giving up smoking.
BT's campaign will also equip BT line managers with advice on how to support a colleague with cancer.
Dr Paul Litchfield, OBE, BT's chief medical officer, said: "Lifestyle factors have a significant role to play in the prevention and early detection of cancer so we need to help our people take responsibility for their health at home and at work.
"BT takes pride in the way it supports people who develop chronic illnesses but we want to go beyond that and help them avoid ill health in the first place so they can lead happier and more productive lives."
The campaign is supported by the Communications Workers Union, Connect and the charity Cancerbackup.†
