British Airways has told 125 non-permanent cabin crew that their contracts will not be renewed beyond October, while a further 140 full-time cabin crew have accepted voluntary redundancy.
The airliner said the moves were a part of its ongoing attempts to cut employment costs in unprecedented financial times which have seen it suffer heavy losses amid falling passenger numbers.
Earlier in the year BA set out plans to cut 2,000 full-time equivalent jobs and June saw almost 7,000 staff apply for voluntary pay cuts.
A spokesperson at BA said: "We have a small surplus in the number of our senior-grade cabin crew and, combined with our reduced flying program, we have been able to accept applications for voluntary redundancy from the equivalent of 140 cabin crew."
