Brent Council has launched a range of voluntary benefits aimed at boosting employee wellbeing and aiding recruitment and retention.

The perks, which came into effect on 14 January, will provide the councils employees with discounts on holidays, at cinemas and high street shop,s as well as a variety of local discounts for health and wellbeing such as chiropody or physiotherapy.

Staff will also be able access an employee assistance programme (EAP), providing 24-hour telephone assistance.

Claire Gore, strategic HR manager, said: "The aim of the package is to address the health and wellbeing of staff, work-life balance and the green agenda. Brent needs to attract a skilled, healthy, motivated workforce to deliver the best services to the community.

"It is not always possible to raise salaries in local government, but benefits make staff feel valued and appreciated, help them manage their work-life balance and improve our ability to attract talented candidates to Brent."
