British Airways staff have rejected cost-cutting proposals made by the airline in a meeting with union representatives.
Around 2,000 BA staff met at Kempton racecourse yesterday to discuss plans set out by the company to cut employment costs. These included redundancies, pay freezes and unpaid leave.
Last week around 7,000 BA employees volunteered to take part in such measures, which the airline says will save up to £10 million.
But a spokesperson from Unite the union said its members had rejected the company's plan and voted in 'overwhelming' favour of the union's alternative proposals.
Unite proposed a saving of £130 million by freezing pay for two years and introducing a limited voluntary redundancy plan.
Talks will continue tomorrow when BA meet with unions at Acas, the conciliation service.
