Arsenal Football Club has denied that it pays its kitchen staff less than the London living wage.

The football club, based in Islington, has been urged by Islington Council to pledge to pay a living wage to all its staff and contractors.

Arsenal hires sub-contractors from US-based hospitality group Delaware North Companies, which also runs Wembley stadium.

Delaware North Companies’ website advertised a job as a lead kitchen porter at Arsenal’s ground with pay starting at £8.28 an hour, inclusive of holiday pay.

On 4 November, the London living wage increased from £8.55 to £8.80 to coincide with Living Wage Week, which runs between 4 and 8 November.

An Arsenal spokesperson said: “Our employee remuneration packages exceed the London living wage requirements.

”We would point out that the majority of our casual workers are remunerated above the London living wage level.”
