Argos distribution workers have voted to take strike action over pay.

According to trade union Unite, Argos employees voted 67% in favour of a strike, in a dispute over the firm's proposed 4% pay deal, despite profits being up 16% from last year.

Argos also intends to reduce the benefits under its sick pay scheme at the firm and implement monthly instead of weekly pay.

A series of 24-hour long strikes and a four-day stoppage has now been planned among employees at distribution centres at Basildon, Bridgwater, Heywood and Leicestershire.

Jennie Formby, Unite national secretary, said:"Argos now faces severe disruption to their customer distribution service. A below inflation wage offer is a pay cut and this is totally unacceptable to our members. This is a hugely profitable company and all our members are asking for is a fair share of the wealth they've worked so hard to create."
