Public services provider Amey has increased take-up of its flexible benefits scheme and boosted staff engagement, while reducing absence levels.
New benefits
After revamping its flex plan, 15% of staff are now taking part, compared with 2% when the plan was launched three years ago. New benefits include life assurance, dental insurance, bikes for work and charitable giving.
The company also set up a helpdesk to support staff, as well as a website to make it easier to access the scheme.
Amey has also improved its absence rates (which now stand at 7.1 days per employee a year, compared to 9.6 days in 2008) and staff engagement levels. Both are partly due to its wellbeing scheme, launched earlier this year. The latest phase of this was the launch of an employee assistance programme in August to improve mental wellbeing.
Wellbeing programme
As part of the wellbeing programme, staff are encouraged to take part in activity days, as well as have their blood pressure checked. Staff can volunteer as wellbeing champions to motivate colleagues to get involved in such events.
Mark Bradshaw, head of reward and policy, said: "This is about our next phase of our health and wellbeing strategy, the first phase of which was focused on healthy living. We are now looking at ways to improve employees' emotional wellbeing."
