The University of Sheffield offers a free health and wellbeing service to all 7,000 of its employees in order to create a happy and remarkable place to work.

Andrew Dodman, director of human resources at the University of Sheffield, and Gary Butterfield, executive director of Juice, will discuss how the programme has placed staff health and wellbeing at the heart of its employment offer at Employee Benefits Live on 24 September.

The session ‘Benefits at the heart of HR strategy: A new way to create a remarkable place to work’ will cover why the initiative is positioned for the sake of the individual and not for the sake of business productivity, and demonstrate how this approach can benefit both a workforce and an organisation.

Dodman said: “Juice is a visually strong brand that incorporates an online home for all health and wellbeing services, boasting monthly articles and campaigns for staff to read.

“Juice has a real bias for action, so we run around 30 activities every week, ranging from boot camps, cycling clubs and tai-chi to book clubs and staff choirs.

“The activities seek to meet the personal physical, metal and social needs of our employees.”

The organisation launched the programme in November 2012 after two successful pilots, with the aim of allowing employees to make informed lifestyle choices, adopt healthier behaviours, and go beyond their expectations and existing capabilities on both a personal and professional level.

Butterfield added that the session would give delegates a fresh outlook on health and wellbeing.

He said: “Employers should consider the value in investing in the personal happiness and health of each individual. We hope everyone will be inspired to adopt a less corporate and more creative approach to this important agenda.”

Employee Benefits Live will take place at Olympia National in London on 24 and 25 September 2014.
