Cab firm Uber has launched a driver reward programme in the UK following its successful launch in the US in 2014.
The firm’s drivers could receive more than £900 worth of benefits every year through the discount scheme-based programme, Momentum, in which they are automatically enrolled after their first 250 journeys.
Unlike the US scheme, where drivers get help finding health insurance and discounts on phone bills and car repairs, UK staff will have access to benefits that fall into two categories, auto and lifestyle.
Auto perks include free MOTs, a discount of up to 35% on their servicing bills and discounts at car washes.
The lifestyle benefits include a discount on online accountancy support and software from accountants Crunch, so drivers are aware of the tax treatment on their earnings.
Staff can also get a flat fee when sending money abroad with Azimo.
The organisation is currently negotiating other benefits to add to the scheme, and is also looking to expand the programme further into Europe.
Jo Bertram, regional general manager for UK, Ireland and Nordics, said: “The Momentum rewards programme will give our drivers more than £900 worth of perks every year.
“Their cars are their livelihoods, so it’s great that we can offer them such fantastic rewards for driving on our platform.”
Fraser Robinson, head of business development, Europe at Uber, added: “Our partner drivers are a critical part of our business, and the key to our ongoing success.
“Momentum is all about giving something back to them, and we are delighted to be able to offer them so many fantastic perks.”
