Something for the weekend: Bedroom furniture retailer Bensons for Beds has opened applications for its new chief sleep officer position, where sleeping on the job is actively encouraged.

The fully remote role will pay £10,000 for a six-month part-time contract, which covers 874 hours of training, napping and shopping. The successful applicant will receive more than 14 hours of in-bed training to help develop their knowledge and understanding of sleep, learning to recognise triggers that contribute to poor sleep and good habits to adopt to enhance optimal sleep patterns.

The lucky role winner will need to be willing to learn the ZZZs of the bed industry, as Bensons will take them to its Huntingdon factory to spend time with the innovation team and learn about how the mattress and bed supply chain works. No mattress lumps or bumps will go unnoticed after this.

They will also need to hold a relevant marketing or social media qualification, have at least 5,000 followers on Instagram, and possess exceptional mattress testing and reviewing skills, as they will be required to create online content across Instagram, Facebook and TikTok.

If you want to get paid to take naps and have a passion for sleep that rivals Sleeping Beauty’s, then all you need to do is create a piece of content explaining why you think you are the ideal fit for the role, while demonstrating strong written communication skills.

A Bensons for Beds spokesperson said: “We asked participants of our recent study about their dream job, and 30% of participants admitted they’d happily stay in bed all day as a full-time job. So, in an innovative effort to help ensure that the UK as a nation is getting the best night’s sleep possible, we’ve announced the creation of this role.”

This sounds like the ideal role of someone who wants to combine catching some Zs with earning some money. Sweet dreams!
