Bardsey Island Trust looks for island accommodation wardens

Bardsey Island TrustSomething for the weekend: Bardsey Island Trust, located on an island off the coast of the Llyn Peninsula in North Wales, has begun searching for two accommodation wardens to live and work there together. If you have had enough of commuting and crave a simpler life, then read on!

Otherwise known as Ynys Enlli, the island measures 0.69 square miles and has a population of 11. It is off-grid, with limited electricity provided by solar panels to run a light, fridge freezer and internet router. Cooking is by gas and drinking water is run from the island’s well, as there is no indoor running hot water.

Along with occasional support from the island manager and volunteers, the accommodation wardens will be required to maintain holiday accommodation to a high standard for weekly and short breaks throughout the visitor season, deliver an excellent visitor experience by welcoming weekly visitors and those on short breaks, provide information about the island and the Bardsey Island Trust, and ensure all community spaces such as the chapel, school, shop and public toilets are clean and kept to a good standard.

They will also maintain the gardens, undertake any other relevant activity on the island and be part of the island community, living and working with others both within the trust and other organisations and businesses.

The wardens will enjoy benefits such as one boat trip to the mainland per month, a shared food growing space and annual leave allowance in accordance with the statutory entitlement. Successful applicants will be paid £11.44 per hour, with their contract lasting from 1 March until 30 October.
