South East Coast Ambulance Service launches mental health app for staff

South East Coast Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SECAmb) has introduced a wellbeing app to support the mental health of its 3,500 employees and volunteers.

The app, provided by Backup Buddy, gives employees access to a range of mental wellbeing services, available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Launched in November 2020, the mental health support service allows staff to seek help and advice based on a wide range of mental health issues. Employees are also able to share their own mental health stories to help reduce the stigma around mental health.

The new benefit was communicated to employees via emails and through the staff intranet. It provides employees with advice and tips on how to improve their mental health and extend their support to others, and runs alongside the support offered by SECAmb’s own wellbeing hub.

Jade Bennet, wellbeing manager at SECAmb, said: “We are pleased to offer this app which we hope will further encourage our staff and volunteers to think about and speak to others about their mental health if they wish.

“This is a great addition to the support available at SECAmb and a subject which should be discussed. In these unprecedented times, it is more important than ever that we take care of ourselves and others.”
