Manchester Airport Group boosts pension engagement

Manchester-Airport-2014

Manchester Airport Group has seen employee engagement with pensions rise following the launch of its communication briefings.

More than 90% of employees attended the pension briefings and some 450 members of staff, 60% of its working population, attended one-to-one meetings to discuss their pension.

Mark Cliff, reward director at Manchester Airport Group, will speak about how to help employees know and understand what they want and need in retirement and how to encourage employees to save at Employee Benefits Live on 25 September.

The session ‘The employer’s role in helping staff save for retirement’ will cover details of the organisation’s pension communications, its plans for the future and how to make engagement cost effective.

Cliff said: “As reward director at the organisation, we have lots of challenges.

“We employ lots of people from both the public and private sector, operate across multiple sites and employ every type of person you could expect to work in an airport.

“We face a unique set of obstacles. With two-thirds of staff acting as front line security or out in the terminals, increasing engagement when the majority of employees are not sat at a PC or have work email addresses can prove difficult. This reason alone makes the pension engagement statistics all the more impressive.”

The organisation is also adjusting its benefits to build a more connected package, as it looks to launch a flexible benefits scheme.

Cliff will also discuss his role in employee benefits and which communication channels work, alongside Michelle Cracknell, chief executive of The Pension Advisory Service, who hopes delegates will gain an insight into the reason why employees struggle to get to grips with their retirement planning.

She said: “Making the right decision at retirement is a big decision for the employee. It is also a big decision for the employer and, of course, it does not start just a few days or months before retirement.

”Helping employees to retire when and how they want to retire should be top of the agenda for employers.”

Employee Benefits Live will take place at Olympia National in London on 24 and 25 September 2014.
