Agency Workers Regulations delayed

Employers have now been given until autumn 2011 to comply with the Agency Workers Regulations, it was announced by the government today.

The delayed legislation seeks to give temporary and contract workers the same rights after 12 weeks as permanent employees in areas of benefits such as pay and performance bonuses, access to collective facilities including canteen or childcare facilities and promoting access to training.

Katja Hall, director of employment policy at the Confederation of British Industry, said: “The Agency Workers Directive remains a damaging piece of legislation, but delaying its implementation will help hard-pressed firms and jobseekers.”
